The fit guide
Will yours fit? Here's the whole answer.
One spec, one desk-drawer test, and the exact measurements for the cups and cans people actually bring. Every number below is sourced — nothing is guessed.
Container bases 2 to 3 inches across settle in fully. The flexible fins accept slightly wider bases up to 3.15 inches — a snug fit that seats with a push. Under 2 inches sits too loose; over 3.15 doesn't seat.
The 10-second version
The whole fit test travels in the picnic bag.
your cup's base
lands in here
- Grab a sticky note. The classic square is exactly 3 inches on a side. That's a fact about sticky notes — and it happens to be the exact ceiling of what fits.
- Stand your cup on it, right there on the blanket. Look at the bottom, not the rim. A flute or a wine glass flares wide at the top and tapers to almost nothing at the base — the base is the only measurement that matters.
- Read the note. Base sits inside the square? It fits. Hangs over the edges? Too wide. A tiny circle lost in the middle — under 2 inches? Too narrow.
No ruler, no spec sheet, no guessing before the cooler gets packed. One sticky note, one glance, with the glass you're actually bringing.
Fits — settles right in

The handle rule
Classic handled coffee mugs don't fit at any base size — the handle sits exactly where a fin needs to grip. Handle-less mugs and camp cups inside the range are fine. (Tall tumblers with high handles, like the Stanley Quencher, are fine too — their handles sit far above the fins.) Espresso cups sit under the 2-inch floor: too loose.
